01 / The idea

Recognition starts
with paying attention.

A profession describes a category. A specific piece of work recognizes an individual.

This skill guides your agent to find an attributable contribution—a practical guide, a considered decision, a useful argument—and connect it to your actual reason for writing.

It starts with you, too: who you are, what you hope to achieve, and the introduction you are comfortable sharing. The result is a complete email for you to review.

The working idea is that people appreciate being understood. This release makes no claim about higher reply or conversion rates.

02 / Two ways in

A first draft.
A second pair of eyes.

Draft

Build the email together.

Clarify your purpose and introduction. Research the recipient’s work. Get a full email with a specific opening, a natural connection and one clear ask.

Writing to a group? Start with three representative samples. Revise and approve the pattern before expanding.

Check

See what’s there. Fix what’s missing.

Bring an existing draft for a checkbox review of identity, purpose, individual recognition, relevance, tone, facts and the ask.

Get focused feedback with no numerical grade. A full rewrite happens only when you request one. Factual claims stay marked unverified until checked.

03 / In practice

Specific work.
A sincere connection.
A clear invitation.

This fictional example uses a supplied interview excerpt crediting Maya with an appeals guide, including a checklist and sample packet.

Alex’s research purpose connects to her experience running a clinic. The email asks for one next step.

People, organizations and source material in this example are fictional. This is a teaching example, not a customer result.

Subject Learning from your appeals guide

Hi Maya,

Your guide for independent therapists includes both an evidence checklist and a sample appeal packet. I appreciated the attention to what someone actually needs to put together when challenging an insurer’s decision.

I’m Alex Morgan, an independent researcher looking at what makes small rehabilitation practices viable. I’d love to learn how your experience managing a clinic shaped the help you now provide through Harbor Billing.

I’m trying to understand which billing problems practices can handle themselves and when they need outside help. Your experience on both sides would be valuable to learn from.

Would you be open to a 20-minute call? I’d be happy to work around your schedule.

Best,
Alex

Before adopting “I appreciated,” Alex should review the supplied passage. The skill checks first-person claims as well as recipient facts.

04 / Make it yours

Bring it to
your own agent.

The skill is a readable Markdown instruction file. You use it inside your AI tool; this website is a download and guide.

Download full bundle

Just the SKILL.md file · Read the guide

  1. Download and read it.

The bundle includes the skill, optional input templates, fictional examples, evaluation notes and the license. Review the instructions before giving them to an agent.

  2. Add it to your AI tool.

Attach SKILL.md in a chat that accepts Markdown files, or install the skill folder using your agent’s documented method. Ask the agent to read it before starting.

    Using Hermes Agent?

Extract the ZIP. Place its recognition-first-email folder inside the skills directory of the profile you intend to use. Review any existing copy before replacing it.

For the default profile, that directory is ~/.hermes/skills/. Then use /reload-skills followed by /skill recognition-first-email, or start a fresh session.

  3. Choose Draft or Check.

Copy one of the starting prompts below into your agent. Add your brief or existing email. If browsing is unavailable, provide the relevant professional sources yourself.

A good place to start.

Select a prompt and copy it into your agent. On a phone, press and hold the text to select it.

05 / A few useful details

Thoughtful by design.
Yours to review.

What do I need to use it?

An AI agent or chat tool that can read Markdown instructions. Research works with your tool’s browsing capability or sources you supply. The skill requires no paid database, software package or email credentials. Your own AI provider’s normal costs and limits still apply.

Behavioral tests used Hermes. Other AI tools have not been behavior-certified.

Will it send emails or connect to my inbox?

The skill is draft-only. It does not include a sending integration, inbox access or executable scripts. Review every draft and keep your agent’s permissions limited to what the task needs. Instructions do not replace your agent’s security controls.

What happens to my email text?

This page has no email-entry form, AI backend, analytics scripts or account signup. The starting prompts are static text. When you use the skill in your own agent, that tool’s data handling and privacy settings apply.

Cloudflare hosts these public files and processes normal web requests. We have added no visitor-tracking scripts.

What has been tested?

The v0.2.0 workflow was exercised on three single-turn synthetic cases covering feedback-only review, source-backed commercial outreach and missing batch-intake information. The full multi-turn batch workflow has not been tested end to end. v0.2.1 changes release metadata and licensing, not the Draft or Check procedure.

These checks describe behavior on fixtures. They measure neither response rates nor conversion. Read the verification notes.

Can I adapt it or share it?

Yes. The MIT license permits use, modification and redistribution, including commercial use, while retaining the copyright and license notice. The skill is supplied without warranty. Read the license.
