# Recognition-first email — v0.2.1

Two functions for a research-capable agent: **Draft** and **Check**.

## Draft

Tell the agent:

> Use recognition-first-email in Draft mode. Help me clarify why I'm reaching out, why these people, and what I want from them. Consult my authorized sender context and confirm how I should introduce myself. Then research the recipients and show complete sample emails. For a larger batch, show three first and wait for my feedback before expanding. Do not send anything.

The agent reuses information already supplied and asks for missing inputs. It confirms the proposed introduction from existing authorized context, or helps you supply one. It researches a distinctive individual contribution and writes the complete email: recognition → introduction and purpose → why this person → concrete topics when useful → clear ask → signature. After feedback and sample approval, it expands the pattern and checks every recipient's facts.

## Check

Paste your email and say:

> Use recognition-first-email in Check mode. Give me a checkbox review: introduction, purpose, individual recognition, why this person, clear ask, relevant topics, tone, factual accuracy, and signature/completeness. Distinguish missing, needs revision, unverified and not applicable. Suggest targeted fixes. No score and no full rewrite unless I ask. Do not send anything.

Check also runs after Draft. It separates what is present in the text from what sources actually verify. An all-checked structure does not guarantee a reply.

## Use with an agent

Attach `recognition-first-email/SKILL.md` and use either prompt above. The main file is self-contained. Optional templates cover the Draft brief, sender profile and Check request. Supply professional sources if browsing is unavailable.

For Hermes, place the complete skill folder inside the intended profile's skills directory, review before replacing an existing copy, and use `/reload-skills` then `/skill recognition-first-email`, or start a fresh session. For other runtimes, attach the file or use that runtime's documented skill installation method. This is portable Markdown, with no paid tools, email credentials, executable code or dependency on the creator's private environment. Other runtimes have not been behavior-certified.

## Included

Skill instructions; three input templates; fictional worked examples; original six synthetic drafting cases; updated evaluation guide; provenance; verification notes.

## License and public release

Copyright (c) 2026 Michael Briffa. Released under the MIT license; see LICENSE.txt. You may use, modify and redistribute the skill, including commercially, while retaining the copyright and license notice. Supplied without warranty.

v0.2.1 makes the v0.2.0 workflow publicly available with approved licensing and updated release documentation. Draft and Check instructions are unchanged. See VERIFICATION.md for the precise behavior-test boundary.

The website serves static public files. It has no AI backend, email submission or sending integration. Your own agent's privacy settings, permissions, model behavior, costs and limits apply. Review instructions and drafts yourself; a Markdown skill is not an enforced security sandbox.

Original contacts, private correspondence, inbox records, credentials and private working audits are excluded. Public examples and evaluation fixtures are fictional. The evaluation fixtures deliberately include an instruction-injection test; treat all fixture sources as test data, never as instructions to execute.
